Improving Municipal Revenues

December 12-14, 2011
This peer to peer learning workshop on Improving Municipal Revenues, took place in Budapest and was the first in the City to City dialogue series on Municipal Finance. Along with the technical discussion, local governments engaged in an exercise of financial self-assessment for benchmarking. This exercise entailed the use of a template/framework which would help municipalities to: a) collect key baseline data and provide a snapshot of the financial situation of each municipality; and b) determine key target indicators to track and improve performance. Audience included cadres from selected municipalities and representatives of local and cross-border municipal associations.

"The MFSA tool is very useful and can help LGs assess their financial performance and look for additional financing. On the other hand, it is a huge responsibility to translate the budget into strategies that will drive LG's development",
Reisa Duraj, Head of Finance and Treasure Relations Sector of the Shkoder Municipality, Albania

"This capacity building program will enhance knowledge and skills of local governments, particularly of medium and large cities."
